An art-filled holiday in Tuscany begins with Piero della Francesca. In order to rediscover the secret of his painting and his revolution, simply spend a day in Sansepolcro, in the heart of the Val Tiberina, where the artist was born in 1416. Gleaming with renaissance light is the fresco of the “Resurrection”, created for the Palazzo del Governo Cittadino, now the Civic Museum.

Legend has it that the soldier without a helmet at the centre of the composition is a self-portrait of the artist. Another surprise greets you as you turn back towards Castel Monastero: the landscape painted by Piero is that which stretches between the fields of Sansepolcro until the Crete Senesi, a stone’s throw from our hotel.
